Kelly Tilghman’s “Lynch Tiger Woods” Remark

It is damage control time for Kelly Tilghman, a commentator for the Golf Channel. Her remark has not been widely reported and only now is reaching the mainstream media:
“Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman has apologized after saying during Friday’s telecast of the PGA Tour’s opening event that today’s young players should “lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley.”"

Is this any different from Fuzzy Zoeller’s comment about Tiger Woods and fried chicken / collard greens? Are Ms Tilghman’s remarks any less offensive than the Don Imus remarks about the Rutgers Women’s Basketball Team? In a sensitive time, where nooses are resurfacing in such places as university campuses, Ms Tilghman’s remarks are stunningly inappropriate and dazed.
Without a doubt, the Golf Channel will try to present this in a less damaging light. There is a financial investment to protect in Ms Tilghman. And Ms Tilghman will backtrack, apologize and apologize. This incident may be dismissed as a news item in a story cycle or two. However, it is an absolute certainty that Tiger Woods will not forget — not ever.

quick hypothetical: if a female started winning male tourneys and a male announcer jokingly said today’s young male players should “r-pe her in a back alley”, would that be a quick apology-fix too?

Is it that these on-air personalities can’t learn or that they won’t learn–idiots! Do they think no one is watching/listening to them–they must. Otherwise, why would they seem to have that dreaded “foot in mouth” disease.
Hopefully, it was poor judgment and she really isn’t racist in her views. I think sometimes we all open our mouths before our brain can catch up and say things we KNOW are wrong, hurtful, whatever.
Hard to understand some people some times…peace all…

this is inexcusable. she has earned herself the opportunity to seek a new employer. tiger is a great man for ignoring the distractions and continuing to be successful in his field.

This woman hated Tiger, she was never his friend! She hated the fact that he is super rich and not white. She is jealous of his houses, money, wife, cars, boats, golfing skills and luxurious lifestlye. Tiger makes more money sleeping than this piece of trash can make in a year, and she can’t stand it. What was in her heart all along, came out of her mouth in public.

Out of the heart, the lips speak. Kelly just revealed a little of what’s on her inside. I wonder how she would explain her comment to children. She’s obviously not that deep. Tiger can bass in the sunlight of white america all he chooses, but he should know that not everybody who smiles at him in his ‘removed’ world is his friend or wishes him well. Ignorance is alive and well…
