Lunch at School Results in Arrest of Ten Year Old - Now a Felon

A school in Florida has shown a ten year old girl what is the meaning of “zero tolerance”. She used a knife at lunch time:
“A ten-year-old student at a Marion County school in central Florida was arrested earlier this week on felony charges for bringing a knife from home to cut her lunch.”

This ten year old was arrested and suspended from school. She has a juvenile criminal record. She may be on national / international data bases and listed as a danger.
Is it not possible to exercise a modicum of common sense? It is unlikely that this ten year old had reviewed the district policy of banned articles and the criminal consequences of a knife at school. She probably just wanted to make having lunch a bit easier. And now she has a juvenile felony record…
