An interim Canadian report has recommended restricted use of the Taser stun gun:

“The RCMP should immediately restrict the use of tasers to only the most serious encounters with people who are combative or pose a risk of “death or grievous bodily harm,” the head of the force’s public complaints commission says.”

One of the salient points in the report is that this is a weapon that may have long term consequences - and sometimes deadly consequences. One of that arguments for the use of the taser is that it is non lethal. That may not be a completely valid premise.
