Chelsea Clinton was in Iowa this past weekend on a campaign swing with Senator Clinton. Major news services reported this event, even to the point of detailing what Chelsea Clinton had for breakfast. Undoubtedly, there must be an ‘egg white faction’ somewhere that is glad that Ms Clinton had a healthy and sensible breakfast.

This falls under political news, where reporters are vying for every scrap of trivia. Every inane detail finds its way into the twenty four hour news output. It seems that there is competition for every detail - and every new angle is explored. Unfortunately, often the bigger picture is set aside. Perhaps these reporters also can chronicle the number of their fellow citizens who simply could not afford breakfast on that day - or any other day.
