Automatic Weapons and Santa

It is usually not busy at the local mall, on a Friday morning. It is not that I am often at the mall during the morning but supplies were needed. I and two others went on a quick buying trip. And this morning, there are armed guards, at every entrance. These police officers were carrying rifles and wearing their bullet-proof vests. Backpacks were inspected. At each entrance, only one door was usable.

In the mall, Santa was having pictures taken with the small children. Nearby, there were armed guards, again with rifles. I realize that it is prudent in light of the recent tragedy in Omaha and the mall shooter. However, the security presence, especially mere steps beyond the cameras range of Santa and the children, just seems like such sad commentary about us.

Americans panic. One isolated massacre does not justify the deployment of armed guards in malls throughout the United States… This isn’t September 11th or the DC sniper. This is a case of a severly depressed young adult taking advantage of the media to become “immortal” (in a sens). People should take steps towards helping those in need, people like Robert Hawkins, rather than distance themselves from the problem with a cloak and dagger effect…

This whole ordeal reminds me of lyrics in a song:
“This has become a full time career
To die young would take only 21 years
Gun down a school or blow up a car
The media circus will make you a star”

I am rather curious as to where you live. I work in an office building on mall grounds in Maryland and I have not seen any increased security.

Hey, this gives the cops a chance to justify those storm trooper costumes they wear and those little German squirt guns that they will never fire on duty but it gives them a warm fuzzy feeling to have them. BTW, I was a cop for eight years when cops got the job done the old-fashioned way with a six-shot S&W revolver and knowing that we were the toughest guys on the street. Didn’t need a penis substitute made in Deutchland.
