Samsung 1 TB Desktop Hard Drive

Samsung has begun shipping its 1 TB (terabyte) desktop hard drive. This is the SpinPoint F1 Series. It is a 3.5 inch - three platter design with 7,200 rpm spindle speed. The Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) is 1.2 million hours. Additional features are a low energy consumption, a large 32 MB cache buffer and a quiet operation.

The configuration that Samsung is offering seems to pay attention to heat issues:

The initial suggested retail price is $399.00. It will be interesting to chart the price point as Samsung jumps into competition with Western Digital, Hitachi and Seagate for this market sector.
