Make ‘Do Not Call’ Permanent

Why not pass legislation to make the ‘Do Not Call’ Registry permanent? - The example in Wisconsin is one which required people to re-register:

“MADISON — A new deadline to sign up for the popular program aimed at stopping telemarketing phone calls is approaching. Thousands may drop off the Wisconsin No Call registry if they don’t re- enroll.

People must sign up by Dec. 1 to get on the next registry, which will be updated Jan. 1.”

Surely it is not necessary to force people to re-think the ‘Do Not Call’ registration every couple of years. Is this to see if the telemarketing calls are greatly missed and wanted again to disrupt privacy? It would seem that permanent registration legislation would have wide ranging support, regardless of political affiliation.
