To the Teton County Idaho Sheriff: ‘Come Join the Twenty First Century’

It’s barbarian. In Teton County Idaho, a law enforcement officer might come by the house, fire a few shots and kill your dog:
“…The Barboza family has owned their dog Bobby for five years. A few days ago they say a Teton County Idaho Sheriff’s Deputy knocked on their door demanding to see the dog.
Leonel Barboza, Dog Owner: “He says, ‘I’m here to put him down. I’m here to kill him.’”"

Is this how officers of the law treat dogs? Three shots?! No dog should be put down in that fashion.

This is ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS!
The deputy should be FIRED, IMMEDIATELY!
There is NO EXCUSE for his barbaric behavior, let alone his BELLIGERENT “I don’t need any proof.” ATTITUDE!
Cops in this country ARE OUT OF CONTROL!

Please email the Sherriff and tell him what you think about this. Ask for the resignation of the man who shot the dog.

Not only should the Deputy be fired but the Sheriff as well.
That Deputie’s actions are a direct reflection of the attitudes and unwritten policies of his leaders. In this case the Sheriff. The Sheriff is responsible for everything his people do. It doesn’t matter whether he directed that Deputy to take the action he did or not.
For that Deputy to have such a disregard for another life, any life, he had to believe on some level he had a tacit approval either because of an attitude which prevails in the Teton County Sheriff’s Office or because of something that was said by his superiors.
I do not believe for a second that the Sheriff was in the dark about the nature this particular Deputy, which to my way of thinking makes him just as culpable as if he had pulled the trigger himself. If he actually knew nothing of what this man was capable of then he is simply incompetent and should be fired on that basis alone.

This is a very devestating thing to hear. Especially when you hear about it when you are 3800 miles away from home. I grew up and just recently moved away from Driggs and I am just in shock at what the county has gone to. There is no reason why the deputy should not be punished just like a civilian would have if they would have shot the dog. This man needs to resign if not then he needs to be fired. This is an outrage and if the deputy couldn’t provide documentation of the dog attacking somebody, then he NEVER had the right to shoot the dog. Shooting a dog is a felony charge in animal cruelty and I truly do believe that the officer should be punished as so. Not just slapped on the wrist and left to lead his life.
