Steganos is offering a free desktop encryption program. It is their Safe One product:

This has been product tested by a group of nine people from the security community (thanks to the group at spywareinfo.com) and the program has passed the assessment/review with flying colours. It is effective and easy to use. And the price can’t be beat - it’s free.
