It’s like high school. There are rumors associated with Google almost on a daily basis. Some are wild speculation. Some are backed by a modicum of reasoning. The latest rumor is that Google might buy Skye:

“…A Google-Skype partnership would make sense on some levels because the companies have teamed up on some major issues. For instance, the two companies partnered with some other firms in making a $21.7 million investment in Fon, a Spanish company that promotes the spread of its Wi-Fi “foneros” — users who share Wi-Fi access points with each other.”

Skype certainly would give Google a high name recognition entry into the VoIP sector, along with traffic that Google would channel with advertising. The extended rumor is that Skype has not added substantially to the eBay model. And perhaps Meg Whitman would like to narrow the focus of eBay to what it does best.

In any case, one Google rumor fuels other related speculation. And Google and eBay are like the big kids in high school…
