A Hard Drive That Is Fireproof and Waterproof

In doing backups of computer data, many people do multiple copies. One copy goes off premises, in case of fire, water damage, theft or other such disasters. Now, there is an external hard drive whose selling features are that it is fireproof and water resistant:
“…According to Sentry, the products are submersible for up to 24 hours and offer fire protection for 30 minutes at up to 1,550 degrees Fahrenheit.
Two of the products — a 160-gigabyte hard drive and a data storage safe that holds paper files, DVDs and CDs — got a thumbs-up this week from the Consumer Electronics Association, an industry group: Both won 2008 “Best of Innovations” awards.”

It is another security option. And one does have to rely on industrial testing and to trust the claims are valid. It is not something that you would want to test and validate at home (although I just know that doing so would be a great temptation to some who read this article).

There is another company called ioSafe that has been building firesafe hard drives and NAS systems since 2005. I think the Sentry version is perfect for the home, but ioSafe makes more sense for a business with up to 3 terabytes of storage.
I think the Sentry product is great for sure!
