Pamela Melroy: In Charge Among the Stars

  • No Related Post

It is just a personal bias but I hope every school girl, no matter where, knows the name ‘Pamela Melroy’ in the next few weeks. She is the commander of the space shuttle Discovery. Colonel Melroy and her crew are scheduled for launch this coming Tuesday - October 23, 2007:

“…”Being the commander of a shuttle mission is a big responsibility,” she has said. “The whole team is looking to you and depending on you for leadership and to keep your eye on the ball, and that’s enough.”

Melroy is only the second, and possibly the last, female astronaut to command a NASA shuttle mission before the agency retires its three-orbiter fleet in 2010. But Melroy’s path to space is rooted not in aviation, but in the spirit of exploration.”

What better proof to all school girls that females can ‘do science’ - and do it exceptionally well. The school kids can follow Ms Melroy’s adventures next week. She will be among the stars.
