One definition of the term pharming may be familiar to people who keep up with internet security issues. The broad explanation of the pharming scam is that the internet user is directed to a phony website. The spoofed website is designed to steal personal information such as passwords, account numbers and other unique identifiers. Pharming is focused on identity theft and financial exploitation.

The other definition of pharming may be less well known to internet users. The term pharming also describes the gathering of prescription drugs and using these drugs for ‘recreational highs’. There are pharming parties where the participants bring pharmaceutical drugs for their own use and to share with others. This pharming can be deadly.
