Do you have a plan for pet emergencies? Some of those pet crises happen during non office hours of your veterinarian’s facility. Do you know what your immediate alternatives are?
Speak to your veterinarian. He / she may have an emergency service already established jointly with other veterinarian facilities. Depending on the size of the clinical practice, your veterinarian may not mind taking cell phone calls. Ask and find out - and then have every member of the family know where to go or whom to call. During your pet emergencies, time may be critical and having this procedure established saves precious minutes. Further, it will help you to focus your attention on your pet and lower your stress by having this routine in place.
This is one of the unpleasant aspects of pet ownership. We just naturally don’t want to think about things like this. It is our shared denial. However, discussing this with your veterinarian and knowing exactly the resources available in your immediate vicinity can be so beneficial. Gather the information; let everyone in the family know the routine; review it annually and then hope that it is never needed.
