One Laptop Per Child: “Give 1 Get 1″ Promotion

The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project needs to raise some money. To that end, it has started the “Give 1 Get 1″ promotion. Nicholas Negroponte, the OLPC chairman, “is reaching out to the public to try to give the laptop campaign a boost. The marketing program, to be announced Monday, is called “Give 1 Get 1,” in which Americans and Canadians can buy two laptops for $399.”

Mine just came in the other day. I wound up playing with the music synthesizer for half the night and with Turtle Graphics the rest of the night. The applications are easy to use, and as you get into them more advanced features show up. Did you see the demo pictures in Turtle Graphics?

Anita, the best part of the give-one-get-one program is that you can give the “get one” computer to anyone you wish. If you want to give to say, children in Appalachia, there is a program for buyers of multiple laptops to specify the destination. Get your church group together and consider it missionary service. Here’s the info page.
