Starbucks Explores a Kids Market

As McDonald’s battle Starbucks for the coffee dollar, Starbucks is looking into tapping into a kids market. Previously, Starbucks has avoided marketing to a kids demographic. However, that may change soon:

“…Starbucks spokesman Brandon Borrman said there are still no plans to market specifically to children, and grown-ups need not worry that the Cartoon Network will be playing on the flat-panel screen of their neighborhood Starbucks anytime soon.

But Borrman said Seattle-based Starbucks is considering whether to add new drinks or drink sizes that better meet the needs of kids or teens.”

Whether it is limited caffeinated drinks or sweet drinks designed for appeal to children, Starbucks sees that as developing its future customer base. Perhaps Starbucks will take a close look at the Burger King marketing. Burger King is selling fresh apple slices. It would seem socially advantageous to Starbucks if it could be seen as a place for healthy drinks for kids. The question is whether healthy beverages turns as much revenue as caffeine and sugar.
