How Do You Unwrap a CD?

How do you unwrap a single blank compact disc? Seriously, is there a simple way to do it? - The packing is so tightly shrink wrapped that it is impossible to find a loose edge. There is no pull tab for access. Nothing.
Imagine three relatively sane people desperately needing a blank disc and running around looking for a knife or sharp edge to unwrap the compact disc. That’s the ‘lowlight’ of my morning.
So, I was curious whether other people had to deal with this madness. I found an article by Jan Benzel about this problem. The article was written in 1996!
“…Mr. McCracken, 35, a computer scientist and music enthusiast, hit upon the idea of the opener about a year ago, designed it and got it patented in January. He started a little company in the spare bedroom of his San Fernando Valley, Calif., home to distribute the product.”

I hope that Mr McCracken is now extremely rich. But why is a special tool needed to access a compact disc? I am willing to bet that if cigarettes were sealed in this manner that some people would give up smoking. - Stuff like this just makes me cranky!

Just take the rigid edge of the CD case and run it down the edge of something (desk, table, dresser, etc…) The plastic will tear!!!

There is a channel where the case and the opening cover can be cut with a sharp knife without leaving marks on the opened case. This works well for me.

Andrew / Howard - thanks!
I usually buy in bulk so I don’t run into this problem. Yesterday was sort of an emergency where we needed a blank - bought one and then ran around trying to open it. Frustration plus! - Thanks again for your suggestions.
