Sony’s Prototype Bio Battery

Perhaps this is an environmentally friendly battery that will not cause electronic fires:

“TOKYO - Sony has developed an environmentally-friendly prototype battery that runs on sugars and that can generate enough electricity to power a music player and a pair of speakers, the Japanese company said.”

The prototype looks a bit big but ‘environmentally friendly’ will be a significant selling point in electronics soon. Many areas have (or are drafting legislation) guidelines about electronic waste disposal. This covers small items like batteries to larger items like old computers and monitors. The general public may look for ‘environmentally friendly’ products as some communities are charging a disposal fee to handle such electronic trash. - Yes, you pay for items like a battery and then you pay again to dispose of it.
