SideCar: Multiple Displays with the Laptop

The dual monitor display that I have for my desktop has spoiled me. It really makes working so much easier - and having the two screens decreases numerical errors significantly. I was bemoaning the fact that I am not able to have more than one screen, while on the laptop, when a ‘techno-geek’ friend told me about SideCar:
“The SideCar is a portable notebook computer accessory that enables you to drive up to four extra displays from a Windows XP/2000 notebook — or up to two extra displays from an Apple PowerBook.”

It is an intriguing concept. - Perhaps some visitors to this space have tried this and can provide some feedback. - The price point is a bit overwhelming, at least for me. The laptop accessory would be far more expensive than the laptop itself.

The sidecar has already been outdone by a competitor - CineMassive Displays. CineMassive had a Sidecar competitor called the CinePort with 3D acceleration for a while. A few months ago they came out with the CinePort Express which uses the ExpressCard interface to allow your laptop to run PCI Express video cards on your laptop. The performance should trounce the PCI-only sidecar (2000Mbps bandwidth for CinePort Express, 1060 for sidecar ). The CinePort Express is a next-generation, or rather, contemporary-generation product.
