Pentagon Missing 190,000 Guns

There are 190,000 guns missing and the Pentagon has lost track of these weapons. The Pentagon cannot tell where these guns are or who is using these weapons.
Perhaps in the vast arsenal of weapons, this is an insignificant amount to the Pentagon. It is difficult to calculate the financial expenditure attributed to this loss. With a thorough review of defense contracts, it may be possible to put a dollar value on these missing weapons. And that figure may not be much, when compared to the mounting financial cost of the war in Iraq.
It is an absolute obscenity, though, to think that Pentagon supplied weapons have fallen into the wrong hands and are used against American and coalition troops:
“…But a report by the Government Accountability Office, the oversight arm of Congress, questions whether the Pentagon has kept adequate track of the weapons and equipment it has provided the Iraqis.
According to the GAO, the US supplied Iraqi soldiers and police with 185,000 AK-47 assault rifles and 170,000 pistols between 2003 and September 2005. But the report said the Pentagon had lost track of 110,000 rifles and 80,000 pistols. It said the defense department could also not account for 135,000 pieces of body armour and 115,000 helmets.”

If a business had such a loss, there would be repercussions. Imagine if Steve Jobs were told that 190,000 iPhones were missing, somewhere along the supply chain. Would Wal-Mart’s supply system have tracking problems and cannot locate 190,000 items? - The consequence of this mismanagement is that lives are endangered - or worse. The thought of American and coalition military personnel being fired upon, with those weapons, because of Pentagon incompetence is nauseating. It must be heart-wrenching for military families to read such news.
There should be consequences for this type of staggering ineptness. It is difficult to characterize this fiasco. It really does border on treasonous behaviour.

190,000 guns possibly falling into the hands of criminals throughout the U.S. and who knows where else. How sad. Thanks, George.

However, these guns were reported in the original press release as being AK-47s. In all likelihood these were rifles captured from the Iraqi caches or troops. I don’t believe that any of these would have been purchased by the US Government. At any rate, the loss of control of all of these weapons is a serious matter.

This is always the problem with trusting the government to “protect us.” As you pointed out, if a business makes mistakes like this, people will get fired, the company will lose money, shareholder will be angry and, if the loss is big enough, the company might even be forced out of business.
But, when the government makes mistakes like this, there are no repercussions. No one is held accountable. No one gets fired. No one cares about the financial loss because the government can just raise taxes to offset these losses.
Keep events like this in mind as your elected officials try to sell you on more government schemes like universal health care. You really don’t want these people running your life.

Pentagon = Government
Keep this in mind when you start hearing about the ideas of National Health Care from Democratic president hopefuls on how much the Government will “help” this crisis. Expect the creation of an even greater crisis, with detriment to all US Citizens.
