Dara Torres: Forty and Fast

Dara Torres is a four time Olympian. She has won nine Olympic medals for swimming. She won her first U.S. Championship race in 1982. Ms Torres is now a mother, with a young daughter. Ms Torres, at age forty (40), just set a record for the 50 meter freestyle swim:

“INDIANAPOLIS — Dara Torres’ 15th national title felt no different from her first a quarter-century earlier.

The oldest national champion in U.S. swimming history, Torres set an American record in the 50-meter freestyle Saturday night in her bid toward a possible fifth Olympics appearance.”

It is a remarkable achievement. She’s forty, fast and focused on the Beijing Olympics. Kudos to Ms Torres.

Better check for steroids, the clear, etc. Although it’s well known that women’s performance declines less rapidly than men’s with age, this is still something to investigate. Not many individual performance records of any type are made by anyone over 35.

[...] And we want to believe in the phenomenal performances of Dara Torres: [...]

Come on! Beating girls half her age? Did you ever see so many records broken than at these Olympic Trials? In nearly every race in track and field and swimming, the American or world record has been broken, or has come close to being broken. There’s a new, undetectable steroid being used, and they’re all on it. Believe it!

What a bunch of sorryass soreheads. My dollar against your doughnut hole sez Dara is da real deal.
