Robot Surgeon

Somehow this article from the Canadian Press makes me think of an automobile assembly line. I am sure you have seen the mechanized robotic assembly that puts together a vehicle - with a bit of welding here and a precise alignment there. And then that soon-to-be-vehicle rolls further down the assembly line to the next robot station. Well, imagine yourself as that car being assembled:

“EDMONTON (CP) - A four-armed surgical robot that looks somewhat like an octopus will be used in an Edmonton hospital starting this fall for minimally invasive operations.

The robot will initially help treat prostate cancer by removing the prostate gland and some surrounding tissue…”

The surgical procedure may be efficient and precise. However, there is still something to be said for the human touch of a skilled surgeon - even in this age of technology. Perhaps I am just ‘old school’…
