Internet Seen as Responsible for Pregnancies

For a society that tries to control and censor the internet, the rate of teenage pregnancies simply confirms the dangers of being online:
“BEIJING (Reuters) - Nearly half of the pregnant teens in China’s financial hub, Shanghai, met their partners on the Internet, state media said on Tuesday.”

It seems that controlling the internet will be seen as a national security issue. On the other hand, China realizes the financial gains from having its citizens computer savvy and connected online. One wonders whether, in the emerging China, dollars will trump culture.
