Cloning: Dog - version 2.0
There might be a way to avoid some of the emotional distress of losing your dog through aging, illness or accident. It’s canine cloning:
“The laboratory at Seoul National University, implicated in a scandal for fabricating data in embryonic stem cell studies, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Customs Service to clone drug-sniffing dogs, said Kim Min-kyu, the researcher who heads the cloning project for the team.”

The emphasis seems to be that the good qualities in a dog are in the genes. However, that approach discounts the contribution of environment and experience. The argument goes back to the old debate about nature versus nurture. The long term outlook would be cloned ‘dog version 3.0′ with cloned ‘owner version 2.0′… which is just a bit too sci-fi creepy to me.

Wow, I know from talking with my step-dad, who served in the army in Korea in the 70’s, that the Korean view of most important qualities in a dog was how well it went with rice.
