iPhone Problems

Reports of iPhone activation problems are surfacing. An example is the report filed by Jim Dalrymple for PCWorld:
“When I tried to activate my account, I got an error message announcing that my account was incompatible with the iPhone. I called AT&T and explained the situation–the service-provider checked the account and said that it definitely qualified. The tech support person checked all kinds of other things, too, and then said I should be all set to activate.
No go.”

Unfortunately, Jim is not alone in reporting such problems. It would be so annoying to spend over six hundred dollars and to have these activation issues. AT&T is not winning public relations points with this mess. Perhaps Jim is still on the phone… on hold.

iPhone Activation Problems, Errors, Hacks, and Solutions…
According to an informal engadet poll, 40% of iPhones aren’t working properly, and another 12% had problems with activation. Those numbers are right, almost 50% of iPhones have activation problems! For those of you still waiting, the activation…

I have been through pure hell with this phone. I can’t say that it is the phone rather the phone company. AT&T staff don’t know how to handle this phone and the problems that have arised. I had my phone activated on 7/6 but on 7/9 I had no service and still don’t have any service. This is after about ten hour spent on the phone with both AT&T and Apple techs. I would say don’t buy this phone because the service sucks. AT&T is not prepared nor ready to handle such a phone. I have canceled my service and will return the phone.

With the horror stories of activation abounding, I almost feel guilty to report that my iPhone, which I purchased at an Apple store on day 2, was activated within five minutes and synced to my 400 iTunes, calendar and address book within another five. It has performed flawlessly since. I would, however, like to see a survey of wasted time and lost productivity in the workplace while we are all playing with these things.

the biggest issue I had with my Iphone is that my itunes didn’t recognize my phone. This is a bit surprising given that my itunes is installed on my powerbook G4. So to resolve this issue i had to get service from my brother’s non apple laptop. Now i’m having issues with my voicemail. That’s purely an at&t error given that their voicemail system was giving them error. But seriously, the edge internet is a bit slow and i’ve had nothing but issues this phone. I’ve heard rumours that they might have a recall for this phone.

I have some mixed views on the Iphone. It most respects it rocks… but (1) The battery life seems rather short compared to my older Ipod which gets about 12 hours, the iphone is lucky to hit 3 hours. (2) Sometimes my Iphone screen goes black while in the middle of an application. (3) The Gmail nightmare is common - all my sent messages appear in my Inbox.. That sucks. (4) Often get error messages that say could not activate “Edge” even though I show full bars of reception. (5) Kinda a pain to get to Itunes while music is playing. (6) Who invented the new 1/8 inch jack? So much for using my Bose headphones or my car adaptor with it… Neither work because the headphone jack is set in the Iphone slightly more than the older ipods… hence you need to buy more adaptors that sound crappy and are long. (7) I hear there is a newer internet service that is twice as fast as the Edge… hmmm latest technology? (8) Text messages didn’t work for 1st week. (9) Ringer volume is rather low (10) Google maps application is hard to navigate, so is Safari… Would be great if it had a home page rather than the last page you visited…

I am very frustrated wiith the iphone. After 4 days I have been unable to activate this despite calling AT & T, Apple, visiting my local AT& T and Apple stores. It seems that for some reason there is a glitch in the AT&T activation server. I know it not the phone as I have changed the sim card and also had the phone replaced by my apple store. The apple store were also unable to activate this over the weekend on their own computers
My phone is going back tommorow and I am changing my phone provider!

We purchased three iPhones for employees including myself. We had no problems activating the phones (5 minutes), but incoming calls took about two days to start (calls continued on the old phones).
We had one iPhone failure (employee dropped it onto the street) and the Apple store immediately replaced the phone and restored service in about 5 minutes. Very good service.
Overall, we are very happy with the new iPhones.
Everywhere I go, people ask me if this is the new iPhone. Definately an attention getter.

My husband bought his phone the very first day it was available. He had to return it because about 3 weeks later, he was unable to receive incoming calls. The next phone was returned when its seal popped off. He has returned the 3rd recently for software issues. So if you are counting: he is on his 4th phone in about 2 months. The Apple stores have been very good about doing exchages, but I for one am not impressed given the cost and hype that went into this phone! And it desn’t even have voice dial.
