Air Canada and Traveling with Pets
It seems that there is a major change with Air Canada policy about travel with pets. On the Air Canada site is this announcement:
“Pets in the baggage compartment service is no longer available on Air Canada for tickets issued on/after July 15th 2007 for travel on/after July 15th 2007. Bookings and tickets issued prior to July 15th 2007 will be honored.”

If you are using Air Canada, you might want to check to see what arrangements can be made. At best, air travel with pets is a risky undertaking.

Thousands of dog and cat exhibitors fly to shows with their pets every year, plus hundreds more passengers traveling with their pets – that’s an awfully big group to suddenly disenfranchise. Our animals don’t kick the backs of seats, scream, cry, snore, or ramble drunkenly at other passengers. In fact, most folks don’t even know that they’re there. AND we pay over $100 each way for that priveledge. AND that counts as one of our carry ons.
I see NO good that suddenly disallowing pets on board does. (now screaming babies and drunks………….). Shouldn’t airlines be trying to GAIN business?????
Thank goodness I don’t HAVE to fly Air Canada. Or Southwest – another airline that misguidedly won’t allow pets.

I for one am majorly dissappointed with Air Canada. For one, I don’t know about other pet owners but my animals are a part of my family, and I don’t see the airlines telling parents they can’t bring their kids on the airline, animals are majorly mistreated and to force your pet to fly apart from the only safe and secure face (it’s owner) is ignorant. I know a lot of people who have allergies to pets and they have flown both on flights where there were pets present and on others where there were no pets present. They all say the same, it makes no difference because pet owners will still be carrying the fur on their clothes and so forth so they still act up. If this happens they just ask for a seat change with someone sitting furthest away from the animal.
Not only that, I get more choked up by people perfumes and calognes on the plain (and bad breath) than from animals who are mostly lying, sleeping quietly under the seat.
I don’t think that I will purposely purchase and ticket from aircanada again.

I find the new restriction on pets travelling in the cabin to be disappointing. I was looking forward to flying Air Canada, but no longer can. I simply don’t travel where my pet cannot go, so my options were an alternative airline which have very limited flights into Canada which have complicated my travel arrangements, as well as increased the cost. Additionally, Via Rail and the Orleans Express between Montreal and Quebec City prohibit pets from travelling with their owners, which once again complicated my arrangements, and unfortunately I now have to rent a car to get between cities. This is my first trip to Canada. I thought it was the perfect place for a pet with all of the wonderful outdoor opportunies, however these travel restrictions make it completely uninviting for pet owners. My trip planning was well underway when I discovered these limitations, so I’m moving forward with my current plans and working around the limitations, but I will not be inclined to initiate any further travel to Canada. Pet friendly destinations are the way for me!
