Manhunt 2 Rated “Adults Only” in the United States

Manhunt 2 is meeting with marketing difficulties in the United States. The Entertainment Software Rating Board has given the game an “adults only” rating. A product that carries an “adult only” rating effectively is excluded from some major retailers:

“Large retailers including Best Buy Co., Target Corp. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. won’t stock AO-rated games.

Rockstar was given 30 days after receiving the ESRB’s suggested rating to present an appeal or make changes to the game.”

One would suspect that this product will try to reach the retail shelves. It has received worldwide free publicity and will again if it appeals the ruling or revises the game to avoid the “adults only” label.

I think it is ludicris that Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc will not sell AO-rated games. I am an adult and if I want to purchase this title with its rating being AO, then I should have that freedom.

If I were the maker of the game, I would release the game to online retailers only so that consenting adults who wish to purchase this AO-rated title can do so.

Besides we do not need a coproration to push its political-parenting policies on us. If a parent feels that their child is mature enough to play a certain game/movie, then that is the right of both the parent and the child. Look back when the Austin Powers movies were playing. These movies are filled with all kinds of sexual inuendo but did that prevent the ESRB from slapping “AO” on the movie? Hell no.

It is always one person who ruins it for the majority of us.
