Social Engineering: Where’s the Milk Section?

When you need to pick up just some milk, you have to walk to the back of the store. And, of course, that is intentional. Dairy products are a common and a regular purchase. The stores would like to send you by as much of the merchandise as possible. You might see something that triggers an impulse buy.

On the other hand, high profit items are located near the entrance. It assures that you walk by that section when you enter and when you leave. If you think about your large mall stores, most likely when you use the busiest entrance, the first thing that you will see is the cosmetic counters. Cosmetic purchases have one of the highest profit margins. The stores would like to make it as convenient for you as possible to spend on cosmetic merchandise.

So the next time you are shopping and you are looking at the maze of aisles, just remember… you are the rat.

Which is why Wal-Mart moves everything around every couple of weeks. The more you have to look for an item, the better chance of you buying some other items as well…..

Not to mention that almost everything in the store is filled with chemicals, genetically modified organisms, and sealed up in synthetic estrogen based plastics. Unless you eat/buy naturally…you really are the lab rat. America…land of the lab rat.

I once worked for a department store, and it was designed so that you had to walk all the way around the floor in order to find the next escalator up. Both the up and down escalators where the same. If you made a 360 degree turn, when you got off the escalator, you would see the next one up or down.
