Court Ruling: E-mail Given Privacy Protection

The ruling of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reaffirmed that email does have privacy protection:
“CINCINNATI — Federal investigators overstepped constitutional bounds by searching e-mails without a warrant during a fraud investigation related to an herbal supplement company known for its “Smiling Bob” ads, a federal appeals court ruled Monday.”

Privacy advocates have held to the belief that email is protected under the constitution. This ruling is significant in that email is indeed private and that a warrant is still important.
