Remaining on the Do-Not-Call Registry
If you are on the Do-Not-Call Registry, you must renew every five years to remain on the data base and off call lists used by telemarketers. Jennifer Openshaw, in an article for MarketWatch, has this reminder:
“But every number on the list expires after five years unless it’s renewed. I know that means the first numbers won’t expire until June 2008. But I also know we all procrastinate from time to time. So why not get ahead of the curve on this one? It’s also a good time to review the rules, exceptions, and the latest news.”

And, yes, you can renew early. If you are unfamiliar with this program, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Do-Not-Call site takes you through the procedures. It is easy and it does stop most telemarketers. And those telemarketers who do call can suffer the consequences, if you are on the Registry.

Thank you for this information, I had no idea! Doesn’t appear that the Do Not Call Registry can protect us from SPAM though, I tend to get it off and on these days on my mobile phone.
