Add another pet food to the recall list. “Kirkland-based Costco has announced the recall of one of its pet foods after the manufacturer announced that it contained rice protein that may be contaminated.”

There are some estimates that the number of pets killed through this tainted food fiasco exceeds four thousand. That speaks for itself.

Just want to let you know that I was unlucky enough to have one of my dogs affected by the Costco food so it’s not just a warning to be on the safe side as they would have you think. My 12 yo English Cocker was within 2 days of death by the time I realized she wasn’t just “old” and was in serious trouble. She started getting sick while we were out of town and the dog sitter thought she was just old and confused. By the time we returned she had stopped eating, was out of breath…peeing everywhere and unwilling to get up and move. Thanks to some very quick work on the part of my vet, she seems to be recovering but we won’t know until she is removed completely from her medications. I have other dogs who are ok but they too had exhibited the excessive urinating which wasn’t normal for them and one was somewhat confused and more lethargic than normal but was acting ok by the time we discovered what was going on.
I will be pursuing the possiblity of American Nutrition who makes the dog food paying some or all of my more than $1400 vet bill.
