If you have been around horses for a long time, then you have met people like Calvin Borel. These are people who simply love horses and work endless hours. It is often hard physical work that has to be done every day. And it is done because being around horses and being around the stable is a way of life.
Pat Forde captures that very well in an article for ESPN. At the Kentucky Derby, Street Sense carried Calvin Borel to glory:

The article mentions lack of education. However, I am certain that there is a wealth of knowledge from a life time around horses. People like Calvin know horses - and horses feel that and are at ease. It is a skill not taught in textbooks. It is just great ‘horse sense’ - and it has been my good fortune to have met a few people like Calvin Borel. - Kudos to Calvin and to Street Sense!

Calvin Borel gave us all some of the best moments ever in a major sports event. The blue collar guy did it with a magnificent ride and his joy is shared by us all.

Thank you for the great write-up on Calvin. No truer words could ever be written about him. Calvin is my first cousin and I can’t quit smiling just thinking about the greatest moment of his life. The Calvin the world saw minutes after the race is real. He was genuinely overwhelmed. He may be a common man, but to all of us who grew up with him, he is now a hero for our families.

I cannot get enough of Calvin Borel! What an incredible human being! He has kept his work ethic, his sincerity and his zest, for a sometimes cruel world, to be the top of his game! Number One Calvin, how does that feel? You are so deserving and I would give anything to be half the person you are! Calvin, you inspire me!!
