Hidden Surveillance Cameras

  • No Related Post

The use of surveillance cameras always raises the debate about privacy versus security. The standard argument is that people should have ‘no expectation of privacy’ in a public place. It is characterized as a ‘cat and mouse’ game between the good guys and the bad guys. However, now the parameters of this game have shifted. There is the possibility of hidden cameras:

“…Police want to buy about 25 wireless cameras, Medina said. Some would remain fixed in parks or similar spots, and others would be portable and easily hidden. They would be compatible with more-modern systems used in Richmond by businesses and neighborhood groups.”

This is just one example. In some countries, hidden cameras are widely used. And, because the technology has shifted to wireless, the cameras can be moved easily and frequently. To borrow a quote from The Police (the singing group, not the law enforcement people), “every move you make; every step you take; I’ll be watching you”.

Hidden surveillance cameras may give an added edge to the authorities but it just seems creepy that someone may be watching - covertly.
