Tragedy at Virginia Tech

Unimaginable horror. Throughout the day, the reported number of deaths continued to climb. One of the questions will be why there was not an immediate lock-down for the campus, after the first shooting:
“”I’ll say on the record I’m outraged that someone died in a shooting in a dorm at 7 in the morning. The first e-mail about it, no mention of locking down campus, no mention of canceled classes, they just mention they’re investigating a shooting a few hours later at 9:26,” said student Jason Piatt.”

In this age of ‘instant everything’, why wasn’t immediate notification sent out after the first incident? Unimaginable horror.

Perhaps they wanted to get the details straight, because at 2PM Pacific, they still seemed to be very shaky on the details in the press conference that the networks graciously decided we needed to view. There was no great release of knowledge, nothing that would help anyone, just something to keep the reporters skills honed on breaking into programming.
