Terrorists would be truly stupid to discuss criminal activities in public places. At least, one would think so. Nevertheless, in case terrorists and criminals make a slip and do make any public utterances, there will be software soon to thwart them:
“The University of East Anglia (UEA) is leading a project to develop lip-reading systems with crime-fighting potential.
UEA hopes to develop a system capable of translating video footage of lip motions into text.”

It is another step towards a surveillance society. Soon there will be data bases that record what you buy, where you are, how you spend, whom you call, when you are on the roads and on and on - and possibly what you say in casual conversation. People’s lives can be documented from cradle to grave - and encoded on some data base. Privacy will be an archaic concept.

Orwell’s 1984 never rang truer until now.
