Marijuana, Humanity and the Law

I am reminded often that justice and the law are two separate things. Unfortunately, sometimes justice and the law are mutually exclusive entities. This court ruling is a prime illustration:
“SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) — A California woman whose doctor says marijuana is the only medicine keeping her alive is not immune from federal prosecution on drug charges, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.”

It appears that humanity does not trump legislation - at least not in the Supreme Court of California.

[...] It’s official - the United States is as backwards a nation as you can find. Because when a court decides that a woman can be prosecuted by the Feds for having marijuana - even though a doctor testifies that it’s the only thing keeping her alive - then throw all hope of enlightenment aside and just give the freakin’ country to the nutzoid evangelicals. This is just mind boggling to me. Courts have no business dictating what plants or chemicals an individual uses. The government’s role should be to educate, fund independent research, and provide scientifically proven information to the public. The Drug War does more harm than good. Where did we go so wrong?
