Hot, hot, hot! Why Did My iPod Burn Down My House?

It seems that Apple is having yet again MORE problems with their iPod Nano line.
They don’t know why it is happening for sure (they have yet to comment on it anyway), but I can tell you that it is. Japanese officials are reporting that Apple’s iPod Nano is the culprit in 3 fires due to the device overheating. No one was injured in these cases, but this should call some concern to Apple technicians.
Obviously, this is not the first time this has happened; 2 other iPod Nano related fires caused minor injuries in Japan earlier this year.
What caused this havoc? Well, a rumor concerning defective iPod Nano batteries is swirling around. Here’s what a Japanese official said:
“We are not in the position to speculate on the outcome of the investigation. But after several incidents like these, it would be appropriate for Apple to take some measures to raise the public’s awareness.”
Japan has also issued a warning to iPod nano users saying, “Users need to be careful about overheating of the machines,” particularly when charging the players. Japan’s government has reported a total of 14 similar incidents to Apple related to models MA004J/A, MA005J/A, MA099J/A and MA107J/A all sold between September ‘05 and September ‘06 — two of which resulted in minor burns. NHK claims that Apple does not plan a recall but is ready to exchange defective parts.
Feel free to comment!

is this the first generation ipod nano or the ipod nano video? Your other post states that it is the first generation ipod nano, but in this post you show a picture of the new ipod nano video. Im confused as to which ipod is giving issues.

Mi iPod nano burned and fizzled out a few days back. The technicians at the apple store told me to get a new one ..to BUY a new one. Yeah right…like I’ll ever make that mistake again.
The least they could’ve offered was a replacement for the same!!! But no, all I got was a “sorry…byt he way, have you seen the NEW NANO??”
Screw Apple and all things Apple.
