Stephen Colbert Attacks US Cities

I am a BIG fan of The Colbert Report, unfortunately, I think Stephen took it a little too far. Sure, he did it for a laugh (his audience definitely approved of it), but is attacking several US cities with the same name all fun and games? Colbert thought it was. It all started when Colbert started attacking several US cities named “Canton”, publicly slandering their names and even depicting one of them as a “shit hole”:
“That place is a sh*t hole. You can smell that dump all the way from Topeka. You know what they say about Canton, Kansas? Nothing, nobody talks about it. I would say we should convert it to a landfill but that is insulting landfills. If Dorothy was from Canton, Kansas she would have wished the house dropped on her. How many Canton, Kansas residents does it take to screw in a lightbulb? None, they don’t use light because they don’t want to see where they live.”
LMFAO! Ok, I take it back Stephen, that is hillarious! In all, Colbert has made a total of 3 installments on his anti-Canton campaign with the latest being against Canton, South Dakota:
”Canton, South Dakota: The ashtray of North Dakota… -Stephen T. Colbert”
Of course, residents of the publicly embarrassed cities were visited by the media. Many people expressed outrage when they were showed videos of Colbert disgracing their city. One elderly lady of Canton, Kansas, Bonnie Westbrook, said what she would do to Colbert if they were face-to-face:
“I’d hit him in the nose.”
So, Colbert’s comedically acclaimed attacks, then apologies, then more attacks and then more apologies have not gone unnoticed, and he still has more on the hit list to choose from: Cities in the US with the name “Canton”:
Is your Canton next? The governor of Kansas thinks it’s Canton, Texas who’s in for it, as stated in a public letter to Colbert:
- A note to Stephen Colbert from Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius:
“My dearest Stephen: Canton, Kansas is a town of about 800, located in McPherson County. Since you just missed the McPherson County Fair, where we surely could have gotten you bucked off something, and the yearly demolition derby is over, we’d like to invite you to visit the pioneer 1883 jail on Allen Street in Canton. Standard procedure is to view by appointment only, but in your case, the Mayor has assured me, we can get you an overnight booking anytime you are available. Consider yourself to have a standing appointment. We hope to hear you’re coming for a visit. Also, it’s funny you avoided picking on Canton, Ohio (population 80,000) and instead went after Canton, Georgia (population 7,000) and then decided to bully the quaint town of Canton, Kansas, picking on its 800 citizens. Next, you’ll surely be headed for Canton, Texas, (population 3,000) which is reportedly home of the world’s largest flea market.I bet they can’t wait! With warm Kansas wishes. -Governor Kathleen Sebelius”

Well, I’m from Canton, Ohio… And it’s a shithole. But then, I’m of the opinion that EVERY city is a shithole, no matter WHAT the name. So say what you like about Canton… It can’t be anything worse that what I’ve already said.

Gad, everybody’s got to quit being so sensitive and easily offended. It’s comedy and satire.

If people can’t take a joke, why are they watching The Cobert Report? He hasn’t hit on Canton,NY yet, but I’m looking forward to it. The village of Canton is located in the town of Canton. I’m sure Steven will have fun with that! I love the show and always get a good laugh out of it!
