iPhone Nano: Coming Soon

Yeah, you heard me! More rumors are swirling around the Web about a possible Christmas release of a miniature version of the iPhone 3G, reports the DailyMail:

“The product will be launched in the UK at up to £150 for pay-as-you-go customers by O2, the mobile phone group owned by Spain’s Telefonica. ‘This will be a big one,’ said an industry source. This does not mean that the product will only be available in the UK, but suggests that the phone will be sold worldwide on when it becomes available in stores and online.”

The phone is expected to be very small compared to its big brother and will take the form of the 2nd generation iPod Nano (the shape of a candy bar) but will not feature an aluminum casing. The article also says that the new phone will be £150 ($296USD).

The smaller you make the iPhone the further it gets from its original purpose. Smaller does not mean smarter. I hope that this is indeed only a rumor and that Apple does not follow through.

Well, the only concern I would have with a smaller version of the iPhone nano would be: Could it use the same apps as the iPhone 3G? Would developers have rewrite apps?
