Apple Doesn’t Mind Unlocked IPhones

If I were Steve Jobs, I would have a lot of trouble trying to fall asleep at night. Approximately 5.4 million iPhones haven’t been activated on any of Apple’s global wireless partners. This must draw concern from many of Apple’s heads, right? Why yes it does, but they see the significant number of unlocked iPhones as a benefit rather than a major concern, as stated by Apple CTO, Peter Oppenheimer:

”Our view is that it’s a sign of clear interest and demand globally.”

Well I would think that Apple would be a little harder on people that have unlocked iPhones, but it seems that they didn’t predict the demand for the phone (both the original and 3G) to be so high. They want to take this to their superiority, seeing that the rise of unlocked iPhones does not affect them, but rather their cellular partners like AT&T and Rogers (who feel the loss of money in the bank).I think many people, including myself, would have thought that Apple would have been more strict when it came to the numbers of unlocked iPhones becoming higher than first thought. Apple is playing it smart, taking this to their advantage. Feel free to comment.
