iPhone Shortages Could Last A Month

According to a Wall Street analyst, AT&T and Apple retail stores that are currently listed “out-of-stock” for the iPhone 3G, could be waiting for up to 1 month for their shipments to arrive.

“I bet we’ll see these problems for another two to four weeks…”

“Early demand has been more than they expected [because] they knocked it out of the park on the first weekend.”

As of 1 a.m. EDT Thursday, 50 of Apple’s 188 retail stores, or 27 percent, showed iPhone 3Gs available for sale. Wednesday, Computerworld checks found 48 stores, or 26 percent of the total in the U.S., claiming in-stock iPhones. The most popular (and the most sold out) iPhone is the 16GB black version. It is currently only listed available in 18 of the stores or 9.6% of the U.S. Apple retail outlets. This is definitely not good for Apple. Their were outages like this last year in the U.S. for the original iPhone, but not to this extent. When the original iPhone was released, their was a dramatic spike in demand for it, but it eventually calmed down. This time, it seems that the new iPhone 3G is creating the same hype, but rather than this demand tapering off, it’s very much alive. Plus they are selling in 21 countries rather than just 1. Let’s hope for the best! Surely everyone will get their iPhone eventually?
