Steve Jobs Is Dead! The Fake One That Is.

I am sure many of you have heard of the “Fake Steve Jobs”. And if you haven’t, then I’ll be happy to tell you: The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs was (and still is) an internet phenomenon. The Fake Steve Jobs (Daniel Lyons) who started the blog in June of 2006, filled his posts with comedic satire pertaining to tech-wise commentators, computing corporations (esspecially Microsoft, which he refers to as “The Borg” and Gates as “The Beastmaster”) and the software-happy fanatics of Silicon Valley to name a few.  No one really knew who the Fake Steve Jobs was up until The New York Times broke it to the world.

Fake Steve has evaded the best efforts of Silicon Valley’s gossips to discover his real identity. Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, Daniel Lyons, a senior editor at Forbes magazine who lives near Boston, has been quietly enjoying the attention. “I’m stunned that it’s taken this long,” said Mr. Lyons, 46, when a reporter interrupted his vacation in Maine on Sunday to ask him about Fake Steve. “I have not been that good at keeping it a secret. I’ve been sort of waiting for this call for months.”

Before and even after his identity was revealed, he was talked about in Apple and Mac fan forums, blogs and even on popular sites like Engadget, BusinessWeek and CNET. Mr. Lyons wrote and edited technology articles for Forbes (now for NewsWeek) and is the author of two fictional books. Sadly, Lyons is retiring the internet personage. The reason? Well no one really knows, but some people believe that Mr. Lyons’ depart from Forbes was a sign of the closure of the blog. The only news you’ll be hearing from Fake Steve now will be on his “real-life” counterpart Dan Lyons when he releases news stories for NewsWeek or when he blogs on his upcoming website about himself in the real world. In respect to the deceased, here is one of my favorite vid’s of the Fake Steve Jobs. RIP.
