500 Hybrid Minis to Hit Californian Streets

It looks like the O.C. is the place to be to get an electrifying Mini Cooper come the near future says AutoBlogGreen:
Five-hundred Minis will come off the line in Oxford, England sans drivetrain. The powerless shells will be sent to Germany painted silver with contrasting yellow roofs. Workers in Munich will convert the vehicles into battery electrics, and the cars will then be shipped to California where they will be offered for sale. Unofficially, that is, as BMW has yet to confirm these plans, though that just seems like a formality at this point. Therefore, we don’t have any specifications or pricing information to share just yet.
So if you are a fan of the Cooper and want to save the Earth, 1 of these 500 (really 490 since 10 will be put into a showroom) hybrids is just what Mother Nature can prescribe to you.
