Replace Existing Flooring Fast!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I’ve been getting a lot of SOS calls about how to replace existing flooring fast! So don’t panic, there are few things you can do that will be done before the holiday!

First of all I’d suggest getting a good carpet cleaner, like Folex or Capture (I prefer them because they don’t leave soap residue in your carpet, which can attract more dirt). And if possible get to those mistakes when they’re fresh. That will help prolong the life of your carpet. If you are wanting to save your existing carpet, try having a carpet cleaning company that uses an extraction method, like Chem-Dry come out to clean your carpets.

Now the first replacement option I will be explaining, is offered by major vinyl flooring companies such as Armstrong and Tarkett. Another bonus is that this vinyl is available “glue-free”. It’s easy, you literally make a pattern and lay it down with some double-stick tape (specific to the brand of vinyl you’re using) in heavy traffic areas and presto! You’re done! Check with your local home improvement store for preferred pattern and color options. The most popular choices right now include tile patterns that looks like actual tile and realistic exotic wood grains.

The second option is laminate flooring, it’s more difficult to install than vinyl flooring. But if you can use a saw and read the directions, even a novice can finish an average sized room in a day. Laminate flooring is so popular you can find it just about anywhere these days. Just be careful. If you want something that is going to last, ask the sales person about the product’s warranty and “AC rating”. If you’ve got an active family with pets, don’t get anything below a 20 year warranty and AC rating of 3. Laminate flooring starts at .99 or lower a square foot. If you need something that is going to last, you will probably be looking at the $2.00 and up range. For ease of installation try getting a laminate that has the pad already attached.

The third option are carpet tiles. They are easy to install and even easier to replace if you get a spill or stain you can’t get out. Just be careful since your on a time crunch many options are special order! And if you just want to cover up a section till family leaves. Don’t forget about Kim’s question from our previous article.

Never underestimate the power of a good area rug!

There are many options out there to help you replace your flooring fast. If you want to use a specific type of flooring and you don’t know for sure if you can do it, go to your local home improvement store and ask the associates if they are teaching any how to clinics, or if they can show you how to do it yourself. This way you have a little bit of an idea of what you are getting yourself into before getting in over your head!
