Is it worth it? Spending more than $10 for a grout sealing project?

If you are using anything that is not a penetrating grout sealer, you are out of your mind! You just spent a good chunk of money and a lot of time installing tile, why would you start penny pinching now? Consider a good sealer one of your tile installation tools.

Protect your investment, spend the extra money already! Odds are most sealers under $10 are only topical grout sealers. And that’s fine, if you want to keep sealing every week. Topical sealers rub off easily. You need to use a penetrating sealer and you need to keep sealing until the product beads up on itself. That way you know you’ve got a good seal and you are protecting your tile, your grout, and the surface under your tile. Your tile sealer does more than merely help to protect against stains, it also protects what’s under your tile as well. By stopping water from getting behind the sealer and cause water damage, using a tile sealer quickly becomes relevant as an important step.

On a side note: beware of using anything that says gloss or matte sealer by itself, they are only topical sealers and you need to use a penetrating sealer first to get the best protection for your tile installation.
