Read the post about blinds and cords. I have a large Hunter Douglas triple honey comb blind. One of the pull cords broke. Several questions: is it possible to replace the cord? (Instead of putting the blind in the trash and getting a new one.) Is the cord replacement something that can be done by a person handy with home repairs (save money) or does the blind need to go to a repair? Any estimate on the cost to replace the cord if taken to a blind repair center?
Good news if your blind is under three years old, it’s still under warranty and Hunter Douglas will fix it for free! Most special order window treatment companies warranty their strings for three years. If your blind fits under this category from Hunter Douglas, call their consumer line at (888) 501-8364, and they will fix it, without charging you a penny!
The bad news? If your blind is over three years old, it is going to cost you, either money or time. Though I think when hear your options, you’ll be glad you purchased a Hunter Douglas cellular blinds. If you call the same phone number mentioned above, you can request a kit to restring your cellular shade yourself. Replacement parts are always free, all you have to do is call and ask. Since your handy, as long as you are very patient this is the way to go. It will just cost you the time it takes to get the kit and the time it takes you to restring your blind.
If you aren’t very patient and don’t have the time to fix it yourself, it will cost you $41 to have them re-string the shade for you. Not bad considering most private places will cost you upwards of $60 to restring depending on size. Once again, call the consumer line and they will set you up with all the details needed to fix your shade.
My recommendation, you said you were handy and wanted to save some money. Call Hunter Douglas, get the kit to re-string your blind, and give it a try! Worse case scenario it doesn’t work for you, and you have to pay the $41 to have the shade re-strung.

[...] Cellular (or Honeycomb) shades- They come in many fabric thicknesses and you can choose how light or how dark you want the room to be. In addition to that, you can get top down/bottom up added depending on your width. This would allow you to have the lower part of the shade down for privacy and lower the top of the blind to let light in. This option also comes corded or cordless. [...]
