Do you still listen to AM radio?

Since mp3 players had come out, radio is losing its popularity. Most all of us who listen to the radio listen to FM. I think I am the only person who still listens to AM radio!  The reason why I listen to AM radio is because at night I can listen to stations from hundreds to thousand of miles away - while Fm has a limited coverage range of 30-40 miles. Most people say that AM radio reception usually “buzzes” this is not true in every location, but it does happen. Let me tell you how AM radio was used during World War I… A radio station that had the call letters WLW was broadcasting at a blinding power of 500,000 watts, nearby residents would complain because their light would flicker form all of the extreme RF output. They used the station to send messages to troops in Russia. This station could be heard around the World at night. To cool the transmitters, there was a pool with 800 gallons of water to keep things cool. A few years later the FCC told WLW that they would have to cease operations at such a high power level because it was overpowering stations at 700 khz around the country. WlW is still broadcasting at 700 khz today, but they are now on 50,000 watts.

What Do You Think?
