Add Google Calendar To Windows Calendar

A lot of people use Google Calendar as their main calendar, in it scheduling meetings, dates, and other appoitments. Although it is nice to have this calendar in the cloud, sometimes I find myself wanting to use my native calendar app, in my case Windows Calendar on Vista. I found a way to add my Google Calendar to Windows Calendar in a few easy steps using the “Subscribe” functionality. This tutorial should apply to all calendar applications with a “Subscribe” feature.

  1. Login to your Google Calendar.

  2. Click the Settings link in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Click onto the Calendars tab and choose the desired calendar.
  4. Scroll down the page to where it says “Private Address”.
  5. Click the small green button next to “Private Address” that reads “ICAL”.
  6. In the popup, copy the link the clipboard.
  7. In Windows Calendar, for example, click the “Subscribe” button on the toolbar.
  8. In the dialogue box, paste the link where it says “Calendar to subscribe to:”
  9. Click “Next:.
  10. Finish the wizard setting the refresh intervals how you want them.

Now, you Google Calendar, under the name you titled it, should be displayed in the calendar list. I found this tip very useful; also, using the subscribe feature, you can add public calendars from a variety of groups and organizations as well as using yor private calendars. See the video below for a very quick demo of how to do this. (coming soon…having trouble with YouTube)

Regarding your posting about synchronizing Windows Calendar with Yahoo–I signed on to my Yahoos calendar but couldn’t find any of the menu items you mention. I don’t see “settings” or “private” or “ical”. What am I doing wrong?
