It seems that BeOS is making a comeback. Well not exactly, its Haiku, which is a clone of BeOS. it was started in 2001 which was the last update to BeOS. This was one of those operating system that I heard about but never got a chance to play with. It was an operating system for personal computer to handle digital media and multiprocessor systems. Its GUI was pretty and clean and easy to use.

Haiku is an open-source operating system currently in development designed from the ground up for desktop computing. Inspired by the BeOS, Haiku aims to provide users of all levels with a personal computing experience that is simple yet powerful, and free of any unnecessary complexities. Haiku will have better networking and 64-bit journaling filesystem with database-like indexing and querying capabilities.

Haiku is not Unix nor Linux but its own o/s and maybe better.Haiku is still in its alpha stage of development but have alot of promise. I am going to see if they going to implement some “D” code in the o/s.

D is a systems programming language. Its focus is on combining the power and high performance of C and C++ with the programmer productivity of modern languages like Ruby and Python. Special attention is given to the needs of quality assurance, documentation, management, portability and reliability. Its supports many programming styles: imperative, object oriented, and meta-programming.

D programming language builds on the strength of C/C++ less on its weakness. Its have a different philosophy then Java.

There are a few projects that I am working on. These are projects that I am working for graduate school. Its has taken me time to complete which is another story I will talk about later.

Open source is a development method for software that harnesses the power of distributed peer review and transparency of process. The promise of open source is better quality, higher reliability, more flexibility, lower cost, and an end to predatory vendor lock-in.

VMware and Parallels for Virtual Machines

It doesn't matter if you're running on Windows or Mac OS X - every power user needs either Parallels or VMware (or both). There's never been an easier way to test software without destroying your primary operating system's stability. Think of how many times you wish you could press a 'reverse' button on your computer. Plus, there's no easier way to try new Linux distributions - see what all the fuss is about. Run Windows in OS X, run Linux in Windows, but the best way to do either is with VMware and/or Parallels.
