The British warn America on Obama’s landslide election victory

British prime minister Gordon Brown has been quick to jump on the populist bandwagon and celebrate Barack Obama’s landslide election victory tonight in the US of A. The Scotsman congratulated his socialist friend on an “inspirational campaign, energising politics with his progressive values and his vision for the future”.

I have prepared an alternative statement that David Cameron, leader of the British opposition, should release immediately to the rest of the free world:

“It is with regret I have to recognise the American people have chosen Barack Hussein Obama to be their next president.

“I condemn the American people for choosing communism over personal freedom and enterprise. My party will not tolerate or support the policies of this new regime.

“We will stand strong with the rest of the world, ready to take action by whatever means necessary in order to protect the interests of humanity.

“I will urge George Bush to declare this election null and void, or be prepared to face grave consequences. We shall neither rule out or shy away from the needs of restoring British rule over the United States of America.”

Of course Cameron, being a populist imitator of the useless Tony Blair, is willing and ready to lick Obama’s taint in order to fool the British people into thinking all change is good change.

Your comments are risible on two counts:

1: That Obama is a socialist
2: That Brown is a socialist.

And as for ‘communism’. You must be joking!

Or else you are just an ignorant idiot.

I want to run away from this socialistic-white hating black-do-nothing-bastard.

But where do I run to,

Socialist-Canada? Non!

Mexico? That where he going to give my hard-earned assets too!

Europe? Shit they wanted the black-bastard. Let US give them him!

Great News! Everyone here I speak to are delighted that the dreadful curse of the Bush puppet government is to end. The European media and our own BBC (with its network of on-the-spot representatives world wide) are reflecting the jubilancy of the British people and the occupants of the rest of the planet at the final, overwhelmingly popular ousting of the utterly pathetic Bush and the shambles of what was referred to as his *government.*

Like millions of Brits I stayed up all night and heard the welcome tidings that President Obama had made it at 5-am (our time) before falling peacefully and satisfyingly to sleep.

As you know most British people were appalled that our grotesque former Blair government even talked to Bush, never mind cravenly followed him into the lunacy of the Iraq debacle, which continues to cost so many lives on both sides and has engendered the hatred of large sections of humanity. The largest public demonstrations in the history of Britain took place at the announcement that we were to join Bush in the squalid, inhuman bombing of Iraq.

We were to hear later, that the government announcements reporting that the Saddam government had so -called *weapons of mass destruction* etc. which were capable of being readied, activated, aimed and released at London and other capitals within 15-minutes of receiving the order to fire, etc. were complete fabrications and utter lies.

It is wonderful that the voters of the proud nation that once was held in such high respect in eyes of the rest of the world, have finally rid themselves of this scabrous, xenophobic infection - the uneducated, half-witted buffoon Bush - without doubt the worst president in the history of your great nation. He was the laughing-stock of the world and had dragged the dignity of America down to gutter-level. It is a huge relief that the Whitehouse will shortly be occupied by someone young, educated, charming, intelligent, sensitive, self controlled and strong, who has extended the hand of friendship and cooperation to the more responsible members of the Republican Party, and who commands immediate esteem and good will. I feel quite confident that he will take steps to ensure that the USA is quickly reinstated in the affection, admiration and respect of the rest of the people with whom she shares this much changed world.

On the part of the admirers of the American people on this side of the pond, I send this message to the nation with whom we feel our closest affinity, and sharing your joy look forward to our continued relationship of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect. Long live America! Viva President Obama!

Warm regards,

Jud.

Well said Paul Newsome! We need this total shake down. I welcome the change and I hope and pray the whole world will to. I reside in the DEEP south. Enough said.

Mike Power. Obama IS a Socialist.

In a land where a whole lot of people apparently believe that a friendly Nigerian desperately wants to send millions of dollars to their bank account, those same gullible fools have signed away the freedoms fought had and died for by generations of freedom-loving people of action. I can only guess that the numbers of lard-asses who want to sit around their houses and be given “free” money forcibly siphoned from the bank accounts of the few remaining working people with drive and ambition have finally exceeded the number of non-lard-asses.

What a load of nonsense! Cameron an imitator of Tony Blair? Wrong party Pablo!
The reason why we Britons, the majority of Europe and the sane part of the rest of the world welcome the election of Barack Obama is because of the opportunity for change he brings.
The US of A is currently responsible for the most extreme abuse of power this planet has seen, with its wholly introspective and galling arrogance … America first guys! Sod the rest of the civilized world! That is not how fully developed democracies expect the self-acclaimed sole world power to apply its lead role. This selfish single-mindedness plus the greed of other countries which misplacedly put their faith in American institutions has triggered the current worldwide financial crisis from which we all are or soon will be suffering in one way or another.
Add to this misery the multinational involvement in several wars that the good ole US of A triggered to serve its own purposes. These wars cannot be won by force alone, whether you are a superpower or not, and international diplomacy is just not a well-developed skill amongst recent American leaders.
How did this come about? Ask Bush Junior and the Republican Party. Unfortunately McCain, a decent man deserving of great respect and support, could not convince the long-suffering American people that he could offer any practical solutions. On the contrary, it seemed America and the world were going to get more of the same as from “watch me choke on a pretzel” Bush, but with a bit more intellect and credibility.
But Barack Obama at least offers the opportunity for real change. Of course he hasn’t got all the answers and he will probably find it impossible to make many of the sweeping changes needed to get the ship back on course. But give him a chance. Support him in his endeavours to make America once again the country that the rest of the world admires and looks to for leadership.
Frankly the past few years have given rise to serious doubts about America’s true intentions on the world stage. Now you once again have the opportunity to prove that the US of A is indeed justified in considering itself a world power. Do not waste it with petty recriminations.

Pablo:

I have copied your post in its entirety to my own blog at http://controversyabounds.blogspot.com/ and have given you full credit. I believe American has reached its end. The whoie world will suffer for this, but I just hope the terrorist start with Pennsylvania when the nukes go off then move to Virginia. It is a sad day for all of America and indeed the world, but most Americans are too stupid to see the destruction that is upon them.

What a tragedy. Just as the world watched the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, we are watching the end of America. Whether the next master of the world comes from China or India (or even Brazil), it is clear that we are watching the twilight of the American Republic.

America died today at 232 years old. On the other hand, AmeriFrance was born.

I cannot believe the ignorange and idiocy that is out there in the world. Whenever I doubt that it exists I now know what website to come to for proof…this one.

Steve,

Please find some country where you can immigrate. Your loss will raise the intelligence level of the USA….

I didn’t almost die in WW2 to now have pure socialism in my country. This man is so typical of the “Robin Hood’ aura now rampant in America. All the lazy good-for -nothings must love it. They now have a free ride through life. I really pity my graandchildren. I quote one I heard last week ” I tried that work thing and it just wasn’t for me”. This from aa woman who sat, with her portable telephone, in front of a flat screen TV. probably paid for by honest workers, not the bums she supports.

Even though I lost, I still think it’s a great day for our country.
All ya’ll ignorant blowhards should just shut up and learn something. Obama will do the right things and the USA will rule England before it’s over.

This post is unworthy of this site. Chris must be asleep. Whining and invective will not put undeserved luster on the litany of failures–from policies to ethics–that President-elect Obama has been elected to correct. Sentient beings worldwide are rejoicing with a majority of Americans at the possibility of the real America reemerging.

For better or worse, your country has voted for Obama as your next president. Could he really be any worse than George W. and his cohorts? I thought that McCain was an honourable man and would have made a good president 10 years ago but his time has passed and as for Palin as vice presidenty -
scary! Maybe the USA can regain its moral authority after 8 years of acting like the school bully. I wish in Britain we had someone to give us some hope instead of the useless crowd we have to choose from.
By the way, do not confuse socialism with communism.
Socialism means having a social conscience and giving everyone a fair deal as opposed to capitalism which leads to riches for a few at the expense of the many.

“If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.”… it works for me. We have more than enough negativity on this planet. Let’s try the alternative for a change

Obama will ruin businesses, in general, although he calls it “the rich”, knowing full well the businesses are legally “people” and are for the most part “rich”. Making businesses middle class is a sure way to make every “person” with over 50 dependents (employees) poor quickly. He will do this to ensure 5% of our population doesn’t have to work. This makes people happy, because they -might- be part of that 5% that doesn’t have to work.

McCain would ruin the economy by pumping too much money too fast (like every short sighted Republican) into the economy hoping to get a short term rise that will make sure 5% of our population doesn’t have to work. This of course makes everything cost more than it deserves, because there is too much money chasing too little value. The market -is- going to dump that excess whether you call it a “credit crisis”, or whether you call it “commodity scarcity”, “exchange rate fluctuations”, “balance of trade” or “housing crash”. The value is going to drop to reality, sooner or later. This makes people happy because they see their retirement fund go way way way up and they -might- be part of that 5% that doesn’t have to work.

How did the world get into the current financial problem in the first place? 1) 1% federal interest rates and tax breaks dumped trillions into the economy. 2) This money chased everything up to obscene heights. Property speculation, money exchange rates, commodities, countries with an infrastructure consisting of human feces fertilized dirt roads had their businesses values skyrocket. 3) All this was financed using leverage, both by businesses and the first world raising government debt to unheard of levels.

Both Obama and McCain supported dumping three quarters of a trillion dollars into a saturated economy, leveraged dollars because the money is pure debt.

How did the world get into this financial problem to begin with???

Obama’s NOT socialist. Ask any Socialist or actually LOOK AT and READ his policies.

His policies are PRO- small business, does NOT want government control over the manufacture or distribution of goods, and disagrees with the Socialist policies of Europe.

People that believe these flat out LIES have not done ANY research into what he’s actually said, done, or proposed.

I’m sad so many people believe campaign propaganda lies without actually looking into it and reading the facts.

Some of you can start at http://www.factcheck.org. They check and prove the claims made both ways.

What does all this crap have to do with technology?

Just to straighten you al out. While it is correct to call Obama a socialist, it is too basic a description. In a way it is correct to call hm a communist, but the 20th century saw to it that that term no longer means what it originally meant.

Obama is a Marxist. Read what he says. You will read him paraphrase “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need”.

Chris, there is enough of this racist hate crap on the web.I did not sign up for you to be sending it to my inbox.

Tom Cameron,

I think you’re wrong about several things, but one part bothered me. First, to make sure we’re on the same page. Giving someone else’s money (taxes) to other people is not the same as having a social conscience. Nor are you giving to charity when it’s not your money.

According to a fairly comprehensive study called the SCCBS, people in the USA (Not socialist, yet) give twice as much per capita as citizens of any European country (The Socialists).

Further, religious conservatives, the absolute furthest from Socialists in the USA’s political spectrum, give far more than the closest to Socialists the Liberals (91 percent to 66 percent) and are also more likely to volunteer time (67 percent to 44 percent).

The richest 10 percent give at least a quarter of all money contributed to charity, although the working poor (below poverty level) give more of their pay to charity. Note though, that those on social welfare (statistically political liberals) give almost nothing, it is only the working poor (statistically political moderates) that give so much.

- Well I certainly agree the US needs change. But with this new regime I worry about what “change” means. i dont think McCain was the answer, but dotn know if this is the answer either. There are some things Obama has done and said that concern me, one is his last minute dumping of the racist radical reverned so as not to harm his campaign. He was close with this man for something like 20 years, and now all of a sudden he disagrees with and divorces the man and claims to not have these beliefs - im not buying it. Theres more, but this alone smacks of a boldface lie, and if so is it an example of more to come-?? I sincerely hope Im wrong and this change is for the better, but I also worry this may be as one person put it, a decline on a par with the fall of the roman empire. If Im wrong we have nothing to worry about, but if not ,god help us all………

The whole “Joe the Plumber” thing and calling Barack Obama a socialist are the strongest arguments for what we need most in our political discourse… a truth in advertising law applied to political ads. If we require by law that an ad for tooth paste may not be misleading, why can’t we do the same for political ads?

The entire last few weeks of the McCain campaign centered on opposition to Obama’s stated goal of reversing the Bush tax cuts that benefited the wealthiest Americans, which would be essentially an adjustment of the bedrock of our income tax system, the progressive tax. We would have simply gone back to the slightly higher rates on the wealthiest citizens that were in effect during the Clinton administration, a period of generally good economic times in America. To call this “socialism” and stir up such rabid opposition on the part of people like some of those who posted here who I assume got their entire take on this issue from the McCain/Palin campaign is just plain dishonest and should not be allowed.

It’s really amazing how loud sheep can bleat!

Two years ago if you told me there were that many stupid people in America I would have had to argue with you about it.

And to top it all off the people who have to most to lose, middle class white workers, are the fools that elected him, unbelievable.

Here’s a guy that’s a Marxist, married to a racists, attended a church run by a white hating preacher who wants to take your money and give it to those to sorry to work for a living. What the fuck were those people thinking?

Now let’s see how he manages to give everyone health care, $4000/year for anyone who goes to college, withour raising taxes.

McCain had his faults too but at least he wouldn’t give the country away.

All y’all better brush up on you Arabic, I’m going back to Mississippi and take my guns out of storage.

To E2001 - I assume your comment was in response to mine. Typical behavior… if you disagree with someone, just start calling them names or trying to pin a label on them.

Raising taxes during a time of recession doesn’t seem wise.Of course those businesses who employ many of us will be ok.They have alternatives..follow the many others and move to India or China.
See,no problem too great to overcome.

I may enjoy free health care.I have worked hard for years while way too many sit in there government funded houses, eating government funded food and have free healthcare. Not elderly folks, young strong Americans who profit because they don’t try while I struggle to remain independent. My daughter with serious health problems doesn’t qualify for free goverment health care because I do work.$28,000 a year,btw..much less than I made with my previous company who now resides in India.

I feel that we just stepped back 200 years . We were to never let the black man to get empowered over here in our country. I feel now we are going to pay for our mistakes with Obama big time. We will have to baby sit the president of the US now in fear that he buddys up with one of his terorrist friends. Allot of people did not realize they were part of a big skeme last night cherring on the terorist that helped kill all of the innocent peopl of 911. I will be very surprised that someone or some country will have him assasinated because that he would not follow there order to do something . It will be shortly and I will be laughing at the whole situation. Also I bet the damn illegals were jumping up and down in Mexico and Texas and Arizona ,well in the US because they are now going to be able to get a driver license in the United States and then take money they didnt earn for social security . Thank you America the Blackness for helping the damn Illegals. I thank you all that voted for Obama the Muslim . Thanks US again . DR

Simply Amazing, 75% of this blog sounds uneducated and/or racist. I can deal with the uneducated sounding folks but I will not be associated with bigots or racists. Chris, I’m sorry to say but after several years of being a member and enjoying your posts, I no long wish to be part of your gnome army. I guess it really is time for Change…

I was just curious, wondering if all the various government bailouts are not also a form of socialism. Thats sort of like taking my tax money and spreading it around.

I don’t think Barack Obama is a socialist, but at this point it doesn’t matter to me if he’s a socialist or not. The American people have decided they want him to be our President. Obama’s opponents had plenty of time to give the American people enough information to make an informed decision.

Seondly, we’re in the mess we’re in now because we listened to Obama’s opponents and let them try it their way.. So a lot more than name calling from his opponents is going to be necessary before I’m going to take their word for it again.

At the same time, I think it’s important to be a uniter, not a divider, and we’ll need Obama opponents to make that happen. They just shouldn’t start with name calling and they shouldn’t expect me to take their word for it until they have something substantive to offer.

And lastly, the British got nothin’ to say about it.

Bo,

Buying private businesses with public funds is socialist. It is a transitory state between Democracy and Communism according to Marx.

Marx however subscribed to the labor theory, which simply states that the value of a good is determined by the effort that was put into it. Most people, after an introduction to macroeconomics, intuitively recognize that supply and demand truly determines the value of a good. In other words no matter how much effort you put into something if no one wants it, it has no value.

When you take capitalist supply and demand and substitute a government buying the businesses and therefor determining supply and demand… you end up with the thriving, diversified economy of a Russia.

Per Wikipedia
Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society.[1][2] Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth-century working class political movement. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism.

What is with all this socialist BS… The American people have made their decision, and the rest of the world damn well respect that. The election season is over, and we cannot debate whether or not the decision was good or not after the fact. We have yet to see what Barack Obama will do, as his term doesn’t start until Jan. 20, 2009. Even so, Obama will do what the American people tell him to do, which is to do what is right for the US…that’s why he’s there…and if he doesn’t, he can be impeached. Racism and ignorant…unintelligent theories spread by those who are afraid of social change are not enough to make others change their minds. So stop being racist and stop being a bunch of ignoramuses; those ploys didn’t work in the election season, and they most certainly will not work now.

Wow. so much emotion, hate, and stupidity in one blog…

The people if the United States have spoken and no one is going to change that now. I don’t really like either Obama or McCain, but I certainly don’t want another fours years of the Bush BS.

I love how USA citizens spout off in these forums and blogs. If you really feel the need to play Chicken Little and scream the sky in falling then just pack up and move to a country of your choice and be happy! Its really that simple… can’t stand the heat.. get out of the kitchen.

Maybe the government should use some of the “bailout” money to purchase one way tickets for these people, making sure to mark their passport “no re-entry”.

Racism, and actions against a President do not belong in this blog or any other. I hope that the mods come in and clean up the abuse.

My 2 cents… stepping off soap box..

How very sad, embarassing, and disturbing.

Please do not disgrace the United States of America on the World-wide-web with ignorant comments and out-right fabrication. You will have the whole world convinced we are all 8th grade educated, intolerant racists. So please be silent in your misunderstanding of your own fellow citizens.

I was born in the 50s and raised in 60s and 70s. I truly never expected to see this in my life-time. To see the country I love make such gigantic strides in the last four decades, fills me with pride. I was deeply moved by the reaction of Americans of African decent.

Socialism? Is not the bail-out of greedy bankers and shady Wallstreet hacks with my tax dollars a social move. I think what may escape you is that we should be trying to build a society. That in itself means that at times we must move together.

Many times in my life I have been disapointed in the outcome of an election. However, I love this country and try to do nothing that will harm it. I believe that is patriotism. Anything that is hate driven, invites division, induces fear through fabrication harms the Republic. To intentionally harm your own country is unpatriotic.

We do not have to agree on issues here. I suggest you read the Constitution, take a class on democracy, read a book on socialism so that you understand what it is (because you obviously do not) and perhaps you can then join in inteligent debate on what is in the best interest of the Republic.

Lastly, you need to mature some. If your views or candidates do not prevail, if the majority of your fellow citizens speak with their votes and you are in the minority, you then engage in trying to convince them that you have a better direction to persue. You can’t do that through fabrication and misinformation.

And again. Please do not embarrass your fellow citizens in front of the rest of the planet. That is just about as unpatriotic as you can be.

Great sentiments Roofrocket and probably a good point at which to close off this blog. So much vitriol, so much intolerance! Not what I normally associate with the US of A.
But I cannot go without responding to Chip Black following his “And lastly, the British got nothin’ to say about it.” comment.
Oh yes we do! We cannot influence your national decision-making processes and would not wish to. But whether it be the “special relationship”, formal treaty, language or just shared ideals we invariably find ourselves automatically siding with the US in both good and bad times. This is why we are so interested in where the US is taking us next. Surely this gives us a right to at least comment on what the outcome of this election might mean to the rest of the world.
You can play your World Series of This or That within your own borders if you like while we observe and chuckle quietly, but the US cannot exist in isolation.

single mom,

Raising taxes or lowering taxes have different impacts depending on whether the government increases or decreases it’s spending.

Lowering taxes without reducing spending increases the amount of money available in the economy. Government money is spent on everything from FBI salaries to union road crews to fighter bombers, it’s ~30% of our total economy. Lowering taxes also increases the amount of money in the economy, but without reduced spending it’s “leveraged”. It is pure debt.

The only time I personally want to “leverage” is when I have a sure thing. Unfortunately, right now the economy is shell shocked after the flood of money the idiots in power both home and abroad flushed into the system. I do mean “flushed” because all that leveraged money bought was $1000 an ounce gold, triple over priced homes, defaulted insurance on mortgages and a screwed up international exchange.

Make sense?

Paul Newsome,

Every American with a sense of social conscious saw Tony Blair come to our congress and sit with our leaders after 9/11. Every one of us felt relief that GB was with us in our time of fear, doubt and uncertainty. We owe a debt that can only be paid with reciprocity. Most people in the US know of our long history of friendship with GB. The USA may very well, stupidly, become isolationist, but the debt to GB is I think well understood, even as 50% of us groan with horror at your socialism.

Hope and Change. Rest assured, while we have great hopes that our new President Elect will bring positive changes and help rebuild our economy and drive the effort for building pollution free energy and get us off the Middle East Oil Crack Pipe, we are the decedents of the Founding Fathers and Freedom will not be allowed to be taken from Americans. Our Great Grandfathers Grandfathers laid the foundations for the United States of America, our fathers fought against the oppression of the Nazi’s in the Great War. We will gently guide and persuade our Elected Officials if they stray from the course of freedom. We will be more persuasive when needed. We have not elected a King. We have checks and balances to insure a tyrant will not stay in power. Our Congress, the House and Senate have short terms that are alternately over lap so if we start seeing the country heading in a direction unacceptable we can correct that action. Any unjust laws written into existence can also be unwritten by the next elected leaders. Any elected tyrant can be voted out in 2 to 4 years or removed or impeached depending on the office they hold.

We also know quit well, that Freedom is not something granted to you by your government, but that is our right granted us by the Creator and something that must be fought for every day. We are the decedents of Freedom Fighters, it is in our blood and our DNA. America is in good hands. We the People are still here.

God Bless America

Society can and does execute its own mandates: and if it issues wrong mandates instead of right, or any mandates at all in things with which it ought not to meddle, it practices a social tyranny more formidable than many kinds of political oppression, … enslaving the soul itself.

May God bless America and save us from those whom believe a social conscience means giving away freedom, rather than embracing freedom.

Wow I didn’t realize this site was so conservative. I suggest lockergnome stick to computers and technology. Obama is our hope to regain respect in the world and to once again represent a shining beacon of truth. Even McCain was gracious and stated we need to be bipartisan. So, lets move on. Obama is our future which is now bright….look at the last 8 years…so much fear based politics and dogmatic views based on right wing beating of the chest claiming to know what is right for everyone and ridiculing anyone who disagrees. Rather than separatist politics lets work together in mutual respect. We need to evolve to compassion for peoples of other countries and as Christ taught “love thine enemies” not bomb them out of existence.

Robin,

In general order:

John Mill was a British liberal… He was chiefly responsible for the freedom of GB’s slaves. The quote was from page 6 of the Introductory of his book on liberty. The views of classical liberals are hardly divisive, partisan, or separatist.

I have nothing against Obama. I dislike the thought of socialized medicine, a socialized economy and a nanny state because I have experianced it in Europe and know for a fact the US system is better.

I dislike Bush and most of the current Republican’s in power intensely. They are economic dunces, their ability as international mediators approaches zero and they deserved to lose the elections.

I have training in both philosopy and economics, therefor my views on the economy are at least informed. You can disagree, but we may be talking at cross purposes.

Saddam was the 14th worst mass murderer of the 20th century and the only one still alive of the top 30 mass murderers. Getting him out of power could be considered an act of mercy. Christ’s followers carried swords for self defense. You haven’t read your bible very well.

To think that any people can be lead so blatantly by their by prejudices and not by mindful reasoned and knowledgeable thought is terrifying. America is still the most powerful nation on Earth, for now, and it’s frightening that parts of your nation and its ‘thinking’ are lead by such ignorance. Thank you Roofrocket for attempting to correcting the imbalance. Please leave your prejudices behind and read his comments thoughtfully. Gain useful correct knowledge and then take a reasoned decision. Your reasoning can still be flawed but at least it might be based on a better foundation and be slightly influenced by it.
